On Wednesday the 30th I interviewed my pledge mom
to gain more insight to the problems sorority women face. Although I did not
get my interview recorded I took many notes during our conversation that will
be put to great use for my final project. All the information I am gathering
goes along with my claim that sororities are much more than what many make them
out to be. My first question I asked was, of course, what is the number one
issue in your eyes that sorority women face. Her response was that many people,
especially the ones not involved in Greek life, judge us. Many assume we are
partyers, do not care about school, and do nothing positive for our community. She
explained how saddening that is to members because it could not be any more
opposite. Between philanthropy events, volunteer hours, and GPA requirements
all of those judgments are nonsense. My
next question was how does she feel that we could change these harsh judgments
casted upon us. Her response was that sadly she just does not know. Unless you
are willing to sit down and hear out all the great things we do for our
community then no one will really understand. There is so much more to it then
the Greek letters we wear to class and the poses we do in pictures. Our sorority
is not four year; It is for life. That is simply not something many can
understand.
